Tuesday >W ' At Festival Of The Arts Brevard Little Theatre To Present "Black Comedy/ At Brevard College The Brevard Little Theater will present a special one act play. “Blaik Comedy," b;. Peter Schaffer, as part of the first annual Festival of the Arts. Two performances of the play will be given at the Fine Arts Building of Brevard Col lege, beginning at 8:15 p m. on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, July 24th and 25th. “Black Comedy” is a story built around Brindsley Miller (played by Charles Jeanette), a young sculptor who steals a valuable art collection from the apartment of his friend, Harold Gorringe (played by Carle Wilson), to impress his girl friend’s father. The girl friend, Carol Melkett, is play ed by Ava Freas and her father, Colonel Melkett, is played by Hugo Martin. A fuse brows and the lights in Brindsley’s apartment go out. The rest of the story takes place in a presumable dark apartment — the actors play as if they were in the dark although, of course the stage is lighted. This is the basis for the play’s name: “Black Com edy.” A middle age spinster, Miss Fumival (Dottie Vani man) joins Brindsley and Carol in his apartment be cause she is lonely in her apartment and afraid of the dark. Colonel Melkett soon soon appears, suspicious of the goings on and Harold Gorringe, who discovers that Brindsley has his valuable art collection. Clea (Victoria Pidgeon), a former girl friend pays Brids ley a visit, not realizing he’s engaged — realizes what is going on and pretends to be his maid. She teases him with sug gestive remarks. The power company electri cian, Schuppanzigh (Elmer Johnson) arrives to replace the blown fuse and is mistak en for a millionaire art col lector, George Bamberger (Mike Vaniman) who is ex pected to evaluate the stolen art collection. The play ends hysterically when everyone’s identity is found out. The play is directed by Hall Parrish and the unusual set for the story has been design ed by Waiter Davis.
